South Gate is one of Sarasota’s highly sought after communities because of the location and affordability. Located just east of Tamiami Trail between Hyde Park Street and Bee Ridge, location says it all. The beaches of Siesta Key are just five minutes away, shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue in the South Gate Mall is just around the corner, and downtown Sarasota is just 10 minutes away.
Construction began in 1951 on the once Sunkist Orange Grove and continued up through 2005. Home sizes range from under 1,000 to over 4,000 square feet. Many of the homes have undergone extensive renovation over the years yet there are still homes priced just right waiting for your personal touch. South Gate is not usually considered a boating community however, Phillippi Creek runs through it. Of course, expect to pay a premium for a water front lot which is quite a bit less than moving onto a direct bay front home in Sarasota.
The optional homeowners’ association offers a community center and community pool for those who are interested. Home will run the gambit of designs, layout and amenities. With 1,985 single family homes, the choices can be quite interesting and will fit just about any taste or budget.
The schools for South Gate are Southside Elementary, Brookside Middle and Sarasota High School.
