Approaching the north bridge of Siesta Key is the yachtsman’s paradise of San Remo which is located in the desirable “west of trail” area of Sarasota. All but 16 of the 68 home sites are either within the protected deep water basin or overlooking the intra-coastal. First platted in the mid-1920s, San Remo never really saw much development until the mid-1960s.
The convenience of a San Remo location offers quick access to the top rated beach, Siesta Key. There is also quick access to Southside Village, Sarasota downtown and St. Armand’s Circle.
Many of the original homes have been replaced with newer, more modern ‘one-off’ masterpieces with the highest level of finishes. The largest homes are over 7,000 square feet with up to 6 baths and bedrooms. Lot sizes range from approximately 13,000 to over 25,000 sq. ft. Of course, there are more modest homes that will fit the waterfront buyer who doesn't have an unlimited budget.
When looking, it is best to know that the odd numbered addresses on Tangier Terrace are the non-waterfront homes. Street names include Siesta Drive, Tangier Terrace, and San Remo Terrace. For those who are interested, we found a little more history of Sarasota and San Remo Estates.
Expect to see boat docks with lifts. Other than the largest sailboats, there is very little to be concerned with it comes to bridges. The draw bridge at Siesta Key opens if needed and from there, it is a straight shot out to the Gulf of Mexico.
Sunsets are a nightly occurrence and part of the allure that makes memorable times. There are the occasional dolphins swimming by. Don’t be surprised if the occasional Manatee sighting happens. Tranquility and convenience are what life is all about.
